The Office of Workforce Development has launched the Alabama Career Readiness Certificate program for the state. The program allows all Alabama residents to undergo a skills assessment to determine their employability skills and training capability for jobs. Based on their performance, residents are awarded either a gold, silver or bronze certificate. The certificate clearly defines each of the skills the recipient possesses on the reverse of the certificate and is available for inspection by employers looking for new hires. The assessments are a part of ACT’s WorkKeys, and measure a citizen’s skill levels in reading for information, locating information and applied mathematics. The assessment is administered via the computer and costs as little as $4 per test. Candidates who qualify can be assessed at no cost. For more information about the Alabama Career Readiness Certificate, or for information about testing centers, contact Christie Sellers at (334) 240-9292 or csellers@montgomerychamber.com or contact Sarah Horton at the Office of Workforce Development at (334) 353-1105 or sarah.Horton@adeca.alabama.gov.
